Clark County Republican Party Chairman, Attorney Richard Scotti, publically insulted Veterans In Politics International Inc, a non-partisan veterans organization, whose mission statement is: “To teach, educate, organize and awaken our veterans and their families to select, support and vote intelligently for a better world and to protect ourselves from our own government(s) in a culture of corruption and to be the political voice for those in other groups that do not have one”

Sage Bocook, Director of the Veterans in Politics International Inc Auxiliary is concerned with the October 2009 announcement from Nevada’s Clark County Republican Party Chairman Richard Scotti in which he blatantly insults Veterans In Politics and the Veterans In Politics Internet Radio Show.  His offensive remarks were distributed by email that originated at the CCRP and Ms Bocook believes – at the very least - a public apology is warranted.

For years, Veterans in Politics International Inc has played an active role in many communities through meet the candidate events and by interviewing political and judicial candidates for office and endorsing those whom the interview panels have selected as the ones they believe would best serve the interests of their respective constituents.  The public is always welcome to attend these events, and recordings of the interviews are made available online too.  Veterans in Politics International Auxiliary believes these public interviews are significant in assisting registered voters in meeting with and determining whom they should vote for.

Veterans in Politics International and Veterans in Politics International Auxiliary diligently work to address and support legislation which benefits Military Veterans on county, state and national levels in the United States.   The organization’s website: www.veteransinpolitics.com   contains numerous letters from elected officials – democrat,  republican, libertarian, and non-partisan.

Veterans in Politics International, and Veterans in Politics International Auxiliary members, proactively speak on issues affecting US Military Veterans including Veteran Health Care, Veteran Court, Military Funding and more, and testify before deciding legislative bodies to bring attention to veteran issues.

Veterans in Politics International and Veterans in Politics International Auxiliary produces a weekly internet radio talk show through, All Talk Radio every Saturday from 2 – 3 PM Pacific Time.  The show is currently co-hosted by Steve Sanson (USMC & USA Retired) and Ronda Kennedy.  Veterans in Politics Radio Show interviews people who are making a difference in their communities and our nation and provides commentary on issues of concern.  Listeners are invited to call in with their questions and comments.  As election seasons swing into full force, it is very common to hear candidates and political party leadership interviews on this radio show which currently has over 113,000 listeners.

Why would the Clark County Republican Party Chairman, Richard Scotti, publically insult Veterans In Politics International and its globally popular internet radio show?  Why would he further add that he thinks people who listen to Veterans in Politics radio show are “crazy,” and call one of the hosts, “petty.” And why would he decree that the Clark County Republican Party is severing its affiliation with Veterans In Politics International – especially when there was no formal affiliation in the first place?

The simple answer is that the current President of Veterans In Politics International and co-host of Veterans in Politics Radio Show, Steve Sanson (USMC & USA Ret,) happens to be an elected member of the Clark County Republican Party Executive Board and is asking questions during the CCRP executive board meetings about the Clark County Republican Party’s finances – questions that apparently certain CCRP leadership does not want to answer.  [Financial records of county level political organizations are public records]

As Director of Veterans In Politics International Auxiliary Ms Bocook suggests that Clark County Republican Party Chairman Richard Scotti apologize for his derogatory public statements against the Veterans In Politics International and Veterans in Politics International Auxiliary.

Veterans' court proposal passes

CARSON CITY, Nev.—A Nevada Senate panel voted unanimously Monday for an Assembly-approved plan that would set up a specialized court for military veterans charged with nonviolent crimes while struggling to readjust to civilian life.

With the Senate Judiciary Committee approval, AB187 now moves to the full Senate for a final legislative test.

Advocates of AB187, proposed by Assembly Speaker Barbara Buckley, D-Las Vegas, said it would help veterans charged with crimes and who suffer from mental or substance abuse problems stemming from their military service.

Under the plan, such veterans could go through a treatment program and, if they complete the program, have their criminal files sealed. In earlier testimony, Buckley said the bill was the least that could be done for veterans who risk their lives to protect the nation.

The bill, modeled after a veterans' court in Buffalo, N.Y., the first of its sort in the nation, was backed by veterans' organizations but faced initial criticism for creating a justice system specifically for veterans that isn't open to others.

A change to the bill included a preamble that lists "limited circumstances" for program eligibility, said Judiciary Chairman Terry Care, D-Las Vegas, adding, "This indicates this won't be the broadly used court some people think it might be."

Another purpose of the preamble is to prevent the perception that all veterans develop serious problems after serving their assignments, Care said.

"We don't want to foster the stereotype that all veterans are somehow maladjusted when they return to the civilian world," Care said, noting several of the panel members are veterans themselves.

Another amendment would let successful program participants apply immediately to seal court records, instead of going through a three-year wait proposed in the original bill. That change mirrors pending legislation dealing with defendants in drug and mental health courts.

Former Washoe County District Judge Peter Breen previously told lawmakers that sealed records and avoiding prison would account for a large part of veteran participation in the proposed program.

If approved, the proposed veterans courts would be optional for any jurisdiction that wants to create one.

Dear Mr. Sanson:

Thank you for your letter on Iraq. I appreciate this opportunity to share my views. I and all Americans strongly support our troops. They continue to fight with great skill and courage, and we owe them an extraordinary debt of gratitude.

The Bush Administration and Iraqi government have just reached an agreement that U.S. combat troops would be removed from Iraq by next summer, and that all other U.S forces would be removed by the end of 2011- nearly three full years from now. I commend President Obama's decision to adhere to this timeframe in the status of forces agreement. It's a long over-due decision that will place the future of Iraq where it belongs - firmly in the hands of the Iraqi people and their political leaders. In the meantime, we must continue to work with Iraqi government to strengthen its forces and enhance its ability to bring security and provide vital services to the Iraqi people.

We have lost over 4,000 troops in Iraq and over 20,000 have been wounded. We need to make sure that we support all our brave men and women when they come home. I intend to do all I can to see that the Department of Defense and the Department of Veterans Affairs have programs in place to make sure that these soldiers, sailors, Marines and airmen have the best possible benefits and care.

Thank you again for contacting me on this fundamental issue.

Sincerely,
Edward M. Kennedy
