Teenage Prostitution is a crime and the Pimps that put them into this type of illegal activity should be punished to the greater extent of the Law. Prostitution in America starts with the Cowardly Pimps, which cannot make it on their own.
Nevada Revised Statutes: Chapter 201 gratuity or reward, to procure a person to engage in any act of prostitution in any house of prostitution, or elsewhere, against the person's will; (d) Is the spouse, parent, guardian or other legal custodian of a person under the age of 18 and permits, connives at or consents to the minor's being or remaining in any house of prostitution; (e) Lives with or accepts any earnings of a common prostitute, or entices or solicits a person to go to a house of prostitution to engage in sexual conduct with a common prostitute; (f) Decoys, entices, procures or in any manner induces a person to become a prostitute or to become an inmate of a house of prostitution, for purposes of prostitution, or for purposes of employment, or for any purpose whatever, when that person does not know that the house is one of prostitution; or (g) Decoys, entices, procures or in any manner induces a person, under the age of 21 years, to go into or visit, upon any pretext or for any purpose whatever, any house of ill fame or prostitution, or any room or place inhabited or frequented by any prostitute, or used for purposes of prostitution, Ê is guilty of.
I am appalled by the Teenage Prostitution epidemic. It is important to bring this issue to the forefront. I have interviewed Jennifer Hilton on www.AllTalkRadio.net, Face the Tribune show February 10, 2007.
Jennifer Hilton is the Adolescent Services Coordinator for WestCare Nevada. Jennifer Hilton has been working in this field for 9 years. WestCare has had the Girls Intermediate Residential Living and Support Services (GIRRLS) program at the Women and Children's Campus program since April 2004 helping Teenage prostitutes. Jennifer Hilton has been helping victims and their families of prostitution since then.
WestCare is a nonprofit organization that serves the public by helping Teenagers and their families to overcome tragedies that took place in their lives. Let me start out by informing you about WestCare.
For over 30 years, WestCare Nevada has been providing an opportunity for individuals to lead fuller, richer lives. Their team of multicultural, experienced and credentialed staff is dedicated in providing the best care to everyone who enters their doors. The goal is to uplift the human spirit by providing the skills and support for individuals to achieve their dreams and transform their lives.
WestCare provides a wide spectrum of health and human services in both residential and outpatient environments. Their services include substance abuse and addiction treatment, homeless and runaway shelters, vocational counseling and mental health programs. These services are available to adults, children, adolescents, and families. Dedicated to working in mutual partnership with the communities and agencies they serve, their philosophy is to empower everyone who comes into contact with them, to engage in a process of healing, growth, and change that will benefit them, their families, their coworkers and their communities.
WestCare Nevada is partially funded by the state of Nevada's Bureau of Alcohol & Drug Abuse, Clark County, City of Las Vegas, Veteran's Administration, and over 20 other agencies. WestCare Nevada does not discriminate because of race, national origin, creed, color, sex, religion, age, disability, handicap condition, or sexual preference. No person will be denied admission due to intravenous drug use or pregnancy and each will be given preference in admission. Their phone number is 702 385 2020.
I asked Mrs. Hilton about the signs to look for in teenagers so parents can know what to look for. Mrs. Hilton explained the following signs to look for: a change in grades, attitudes, friends, attendance at school, the way your child dresses, any alcohol and drug use, and a low self esteem.
Mrs. Hilton explained to Face The Tribune that the type of parenting or lack of parenting could contribute to Teenage Prostitution incest within a family, rape, mental and physical abuse, drug or alcohol abuse amongst parents, lack of parental involvement, molestation, neglect, and a poor financial and social economic level.
Mrs. Hilton told me that Pimps look for runaways and they will promise the Teenage Girls the world. Pimps would get them hooked on drugs, give them a false sense of security by telling the girls that they are in love with them, have the girls have sex with their friends, threatening the girls family and friends if they do not cooperate with them, and transport the girls from one city to another to insure that they would not get arrested.
The Laws against convicting Pimps are lacking to a great degree. You need at least two girls to testify against a Pimp for convection. This is the reason why Pimps travel with just one girl at a time. The Pimps put fear into these young girl's hearts for them not to testify against them.
I have asked Nevada Democratic Representative Assemblyman William Horne and Nevada Republican Representative Francis Allen about drafting a bill in the 2007 Legislature to toughing up the Laws that protect these Cowardly Pimps and to make it easier for these underage teenage girls to testify against them. I have received no response from my voice messages and e-mails; maybe it is because this epidemic has not faced them on a personal level. It seems as though this issue has not made their priority list, so I am being ignored.
Mrs. Hilton explained to me in great detail about the sexual transmitted diseases (STD) that come with being a prostitute. Human Papilloma Virus: The human papilloma virus is thought to be one of the main causes of cervical cancer. It has also been linked with other types of cancers of the female reproductive system. While HPV can be treated to reduce the signs and symptoms, there is currently no cure for this virus.
Herpes Virus: Herpes is another STD that presently has no cure. However, treatment is available and there are a number of things you can do yourself at home to help relieve your genital herpes. Herpes symptoms include blisters or sores that periodically break out on the genitals.
Hepatitis: Although there is no cure for those already infected, there is now a Hepatitis B (HBV) vaccine available to prevent the spread of this infection. Many are asymptomatic; however those who do suffer from Hepatitis B symptoms may have many unpleasant discomforts. Even though there is a possibility that the infection will clear up on its own, some people suffer from chronic infections for many years. Treatment is available for chronic sufferers. Other types of hepatitis infections that can be passed through sexual contact include Hepatitis A and Hepatitis C.
HIV/AIDS: One STD that many people are worried about getting is HIV. While new ways of treating this infection can significantly prolong an infected person's life, for far too many people this infection eventually progresses to AIDS and, ultimately, death. More than 40 million people worldwide are infected with the HIV virus; women account for 50% of those infected. In the US, African Americans account for a disproportionate number of HIV cases. Many people may not realize they are infected, as the HIV virus is often asymptomatic for the first few years. HIV testing is the only sure way to know if you are infected. However, you can take steps to help prevent the infection.
Syphilis: Throughout history, cases of syphilis have been recorded. While this STD has not always been effectively dealt with, nowadays, syphilis can easily be treated and cured. However, as history has shown, without treatment, syphilis symptoms can progress and affect the nervous system and brain leading to dementia and even death.
Trichomoniasis: Trichomoniasis is one of the most common, curable STDs out there. However, symptoms of trich may be mistaken for a yeast infection causing a woman to use the wrong type of treatment for her vaginal discharge.
Common Infections: Chlamydia and gonorrhea often infect a person at the same time. Although the symptoms of Chlamydia are different from gonorrhea symptoms, it is not unusual for a person to be asymptomatic. If you are testing for Chlamydia, it may be a good idea to also test for gonorrhea at the same time. Both STDs can be cured but can also do damage to your reproductive system if left untreated.
Pubic Lice: A very common STD, crabs are very similar to head lice. While the itchy symptoms can be hard to miss, treatment for pubic lice can easily take care of the discomfort these pests can cause.
Rare Infections: Some STDs, like granuloma inguinale and chancroid, are not so well known in North America, but that doesn't mean you're not at risk of contracting these infections. Other lesser-talked about STDs include nongonococcal urethritis, molluscum contagiosum, and lymphogranuloma venereum.
Make No Mistake: Sometimes STD symptoms can be confused with mononucleosis. Characterized by a fever, sore throat, and extreme weakness, mono is a viral infection that needs to be treated right away. If you think you have the illness, seek mono treatment as soon as possible. Also, yeast infection can cause painful itching and burning, and can even be transmitted sexually.
The court system is been overloaded with cases of Teenage Prostitution. Several courts are involved: Family Court for the Teenage Victims, Justice and District court for the Pimps that place these young girls on the streets. I believe that the Federal courts should also be involved because of tax evasion, transporting a minor across State Lines, and human trafficking of woman used as sex slaves, some of the girls are as young as 10 years old.
Teenage Prostitution is a growing epidemic in the Las Vegas Valley. The judge, prosecutors, public defenders, police, probation officers and social workers have come together to try to address this problem. The problem starts with the changing of the Law to make it easier to prosecute Pimps and make the penalty harsher: 'CLASS A FELONY,' which would deter these Pimps that are already familiar with our laws. Right now the law makes it an attractive, easy to get away with business for the parasitical Pimps.
Some might say that these young girls should be locked up for prostitution, but I believe that their young minds are easily influenced by their Pimps and especially for the type of environment some of the girls come from. Remember these are underage girls and if anyone, a neighbor a family member molested or exploited a young girl they would be locked up because IT IS CHILD ABUSE. So why is it that these pimps get off easy, it does not make sense?
Most of these girls are vulnerable due to the following: the lost of a parent, divorce, witnessing a terrible crime, physical and or sexual abuse which could also contribute to low self worth as well as symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
The Metropolitan Police Department has a program called Stop Turning Out Child Prostitutes, or STOP. This program is used to help Teenage Prostitutes.
These young girls need treatment, guidance, and love not jail. However Pimps need to be put away for they are a burden to society.
